MOUNT VERNON — While it remains up in the air if Mount Vernon City Council could put a charter commission request on the November ballot, Monday evening’s committee meeting tied up some lose ends to prepare legislation just in case.

According to City Law Director Rob Broeren, the Knox County Board of Elections has yet to hear from the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office to determine if a charter issue can be placed on the ballot in a non-municipal election year such as November 2018. Broeren said he and Kim Horn, BOE director, “think” it could happen this year rather than waiting until the next municipal election in 2019.
