FREDERICKOWN — Samuel R. Speck, 84, Fredericktown, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born in Mansfield, April 30, 1934, to the late Ralph and Dorothy (Poe) Speck.

Sam was a graduate of Loudonville High School in 1952. After graduation, Sam joined and served proudly with the United States Army. He taught at the Knox County Career Center for 25 years in the Auto Body Department.

He loved boating and fishing on Lake Erie and in Canada. Sam was a member of the Ohio Archeology Society for many years. He was well known for his restoration skills. He and his wife, Patricia, attended Owl Creek Church of the Brethren in Ankenytown. He enjoyed motorcycles, his pets, yard work, the neighborhood cats, but most of all he loved his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia (Sheedy) Speck; a daughter, Michele Speck; grandson, Jared Speck; great-grandchildren, Jaden, Josalyn and Kiley Speck; a niece; and five feline friends, Smokey, Calie, Scamp, Buffin and Patches.

Along with his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his grandparents.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at noon with an hour of visitation before the service from 11 a.m. to noon, at Owl Creek Church of the Brethren; 13241 Toms Road, Bellville, OH 44813, officiated by Pastor Charles Barnhill. Burial will follow in Owl Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Owl Creek Church of the Brethren or an Animal Rescue of donor’s choice.
