MOUNT VERNON — Philip Kempton, 74, of Vinton, Virginia, and formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018, with family by his side. He was born July 12, 1943, in Mount Vernon, the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Schlariet) Kempton.

Phil was a 1961 graduate of St. Vincent de Paul High School and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He retired in 2010 after serving as an airport manager for Delta Airlines for over 37 years. Phil traveled extensively and was an avid historian and collector of clocks. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother that will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Georgina (Chirino) Kempton; a son, Philip J. Kempton; a daughter, Melissa (Mike) Strickland; a grandson, Conor Strickland; four brothers, Kenneth (Susan) Kempton, Stanley (Fran) Kempton, William (Jennifer) Kempton and Robert Kempton; three sisters, Martha Gavin, Mary Kemmer and Marjorie (David) Grubaugh. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 22, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Father Daniel Olvera will be Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
