MOUNT VERNON — Emory B. Carper, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 16, 2018, at the Mount Vernon Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Jan. 18, 1938, in Sinks Grove, West Virginia, to the late Frank and Addie (Sarver) Carper.

Emory graduated from Utica High School and then went to work for Cooper Bessemer for 3 1/2 years. He then went to work for General Motors at the Ontario Fisher Body Plant for 38 years. While he worked for GM, he attended the Ohio State Tech School and the Ashland Tech School. Emory was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple and the United Auto Workers Local 549, Mansfield. He enjoyed watching, baseball, basketball, football and Nascar.

Emory is survived by his children, Rickie L. Carper, Deborah L. (Mike) Canterbury, Timothy E. Carper, and Rodney A. Carper; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Suzanne) Carper.

In addition to his parents, Emory was preceded in death by his sister, Ada Henthorn.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a memorial service celebrating the life of Emory at 1 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2018, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon with Pastor Bill Fennell officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
