NEWARK — Jean Annette (Dowie) Purdy, 100, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018. Jean was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Newark to Alexander and Leone (Hoodlett) Dowie. She graduated from Newark High School in 1935. She retired from Columbus City Schools and volunteered at Doctors West Hospital for 28 years.

Preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Purdy; sons, Bruce and David Purdy; sister, Ruth Morris; and grandson, Nathaniel. Survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Mick) Gourley; sons, Wayne and Dean Purdy; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Dowie.

Family will receive visitors from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Heart & Hope Funeral Home by Schoedinger, 3030 W. Broad St., Columbus, where funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Lee Cubie officiating. Interment and graveside service at 1 p.m. in Hopewell Cemetery, 20220 Hopewell Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, 711 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43205.
