Fred Main/News Danville softball players Sammie Lavender, left, and Taylor Duncan found themselves with a little extra work Monday, under the watchful eye of the umpire, during their Division IV district softball game at Pickerington North. Duncan was digging out some dirt to help level the first base bag, which was being held by Lavender.

PICKERINGTON — The Danville softball team prides itself on doing the little things needed to win ball games.

From laying down a good bunt to move a runner over to hitting the cutoff man correctly, those little things can add up over the course of a game.

Monday in the Division IV district semifinal, those little things added up to a victory for the Blue Devils. Danville got the defensive plays and hits needed at the right times to beat Granville Christian Academy, 14-6, at Pickerington North High School.

“We’ve played a tough schedule and we had to work to make the plays. That definitely prepared us for this,” said Danville coach Jill Lyons.
