MOUNT VERNON — Richard Herendeen, 83, died Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center in Mount Vernon, where he had lived for most of his life. Richard was born in Geneva, to Frank D. and Josephine (Kroflic) Herendeen.

He was cared for at home until the physical demands of his care became unmanageable and he was moved to Mount Vernon at the age of 10.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Herendeen. He is survived by his twin brother, Robert (Theresa); eight nieces and nephews; and cousins, Joseph Sironen (Rosemary), Frances Zirkle, Florence Stone (Elverton) and Shirley Conley.

The family wishes to thank and pay special tribute to all of the caregivers at Mount Vernon Developmental Center who served as a family for Richard. They gave him a dignified life and a quality of care that was remarkable.

A private graveside service and burial was held at Fairview Cemetery in Madison on May 1, 2018.
