MOUNT VERNON — Beverly Irene Riggs, 82, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Knox Community Hospital, in Mount Vernon.

Beverly was born Aug. 27, 1935, in Mansfield, to Marshall and Mildred (Robinson) Leiter.

She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1953. Beverly worked for Mount Vernon City Schools for 37 years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served on the Preschool Board. Beverly was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, HopeNow, Soroptimist of Mount Vernon, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Even with all these commitments, Beverly always put her family first, and never missed a ballgame for kids and grandkids.

Beverly will be deeply missed by her children, Tammie (Rocky) Canterbury, Julie (Greg) Runkel, Tim Riggs, and Tina (Sam) Sovine; grandchildren, Ryan (Jacie) Canterbury, Brandi (Jason) Kerr, Brittany Canterbury, Amanda Runkel, Jenna (Jay) Hammons, David Sovine, Joshua (Whitney) Riggs, Renee Riggs, and Sarah (Raphael) Pacheco; great-grandchildren, Reese, Ryleigh, Briggs, Hadlie, Haidyn, Jayna, Jamison, Katie, Blake, Wyatt, Elena, Sofia, Max, and Selena; brother, Eugene (Carolyn) Leiter; sister, Barbara (Norman) Steagall. Her very special companion, Bill Bayliss, will also miss her.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Kenneth Shira; and second husband, Russell Riggs.

Friends may call Monday from noon to 3 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m., at the church with Pastors M.E. Leiter and Mark Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Online tributes may be made at
