MOUNT VERNON — Mike Hillier is no longer the city’s parking enforcement officer. He retired from the part-time position Thursday, Mayor Richard Mavis reported during his weekly press briefing.

Mavis said Hilliar had “done a good job” in the position and Safety-Service Director Joel Daniels said they would start looking immediately for a replacement. The job pays $12.50 per hour for a 20-hour week.

The city is also trying to fill several other positions.

Utilities Director Mathias Orndorf said he hopes to begin interviewing candidates for a machinist position. Thirteen applicants took the test and seven passed, he said.

The city will be giving a test for entry-level workers May 30, with applications due in by May 24. Persons who pass the test will be considered for openings in several departments. The Street Department, for example, will have two positions to fill this summer due to retirements.
