Knox County Jail

MOUNT VERNON — The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification has been asked to investigate allegations of on-the-job misconduct related to a jailer at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the News has confirmed.

A spokesperson for the Ohio Attorney General’s office confirmed that BCI was asked last week to conduct the investigation and that it was related to the officer’s job.

Sheriff Dave Shaffer said only that a jailer had resigned and that he had asked for BCI to look into allegations, but he could not discuss the details at this time.

The identity of the jailer in question has not been released because no charges have been filed at this time. The News, however, has made a request for the former employee’s personnel file and is awaiting release of that information, including the resignation letter.
