MOUNT VERNON — May 4, 2018, will be known as “Dude Conway Day” in Mount Vernon as the result of a proclamation issued by City Council on Monday evening. That’s the day Conard J. Conway, a former member of City Council, will be inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame at the Ohio Statehouse.

Conway was unable to be present, but three daughters, Nancy Fitzsimmons, Cathy McCarter and Kelley Watson, along with granddaughter Camille Fitzsimmons, were on hand to accept the honor.

Conway served aboard the LCI R226 and participated in eight landings, including four in the Philippines in January and February of 1945 and earned a Bronze Star for his service.
