MOUNT VERNON — The May 8 Primary Election will place some new and some familiar names on the ballots, especially in the county commissioner race and that of the 7th Congressional District race. To help educate the public on the candidates for these races, the Mount Vernon News has organized debates with candidates on Thursday, April 19, at Foster Hall in Ariel Arena on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The evening will begin at 7 p.m., with the commissioner candidates — Jeff Cline, Bruce Hawkins, Bill Pursel and Denny Snow. Each candidate will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and then will be asked questions by moderators from the News and media partners, WMVO/WQIO and WNZR.

Beginning at approximately 8:20 p.m., candidates for the 7th Congressional District will square off. As of press time, Republican candidates Patrick Quinn and Terry Robertson have confirmed their attendance. Republican Incumbent Bob Gibbs has not responded to requests to attend.

Democrat Ken Harbaugh has already committed to another engagement that night and will be unable to attend. Patrick Pikus, also a Democrat, has not responded to News requests as of this morning.

The debates will be livestreamed by MVNU staff and students at
