MOUNT VERNON — Students from the Knox County Career Center Digital Media, CollegeU-Business and Computer Networking Technology Programs participated in the Business Professionals of America State Contests at the Columbus Convention Center on March 8 and 9.

The following KCCC students are now qualified to move on to national contests and will be attending the BPA 2018 National Leadership Conference, “Dream Bigger,” in Dallas, Texas May 9-13: Alexis Oliver (Medical Office Applications – First Place) and Mason Wood (Computer Modeling – Third Place).

Students attending the conference will be participating in certification exams and will have the opportunity to network with other business students from across the nation. These students will join over 5,000 other conference delegates to participate in national-level business skill competitions, workshops, general sessions and the national officer candidate campaigns and elections. Besides having the opportunity to excel, they’ll experience Dallas as they visit exciting sites.

According to Dave Rashley and Tammy Klein, BPA advisors and teachers at the KCCC, the conference will be a celebration of a school year’s worth of business workforce education and training received by members of the KCCC chapter of Business Professionals of America. Rashley and Klein also complimented the students on the hard work and dedication they committed to their contests and projects. Preparing for the contests involved extensive research, technological skills and practice.

Other KCCC students placing in the top 10 at state contests included students from Computer Networking: Aaron Vess (fifth place – Advanced Interview Skills), Hunter Davis (6th place – Systems Administration Using Cisco) and Dana Beale (7th place – Computer Network Technology); students from CollegeU-Business: Julia Greenich (5th place – Extemporaneous Speech) and Justin Dendinger (6th place – Business Law and Ethics); and students from Digital Media: Xavier Tipton, Trenton Barton and Jared Fontes (6th place – Computer Animation Team).
