UTICA — Jim and Bonnie Anderson have been married for 58 years. Both have cancer.
Jim was first diagnosed in 2012 with stage four colon cancer and bladder cancer. After a long fight, undergoing surgery and chemo treatments, Jim was found cleared in 2014. It wasn’t until May of 2015 doctors found the cancer had metastasized to his lungs. The fight continued with more chemo therapy until November of 2017, at which point all standard treatment had been exhausted. He was placed in Hospice in January of 2018.
It was around that time that Bonnie was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. With no treatment options available for her, she was placed under hospice care as well.
Hoping to help with some of their medical expenses, there will be a fundraiser held Saturday, April 7, from 12-4 p.m. at American Legion Post 92, 19 S. Washington St., in Utica. This will include a silent auction, a 50/50 drawing and a spaghetti dinner. There is a cost for dinner, which is free for younger children.
There are T-shirts, which Dush Graphix designed, available to purchase to fund this cause. On the front of the charcoal gray T-shirt is an open heart with “Jim & Bonnie – A-TEAM Est. – May 26, 1959;” on the back, framed tastefully with flowers, a tractor and a cancer ribbon, “One Couple Two Hearts Twice the Fight.”
For more information or to order t-shirts, contact their daughter, Theresa Blacksten, at 740-504-0845 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
