Concordia 5, MVNU 4

Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s tennis held its own against visiting Concordia University at the Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington on Saturday, but the Cardinals came up with a few clutch match wins to eke out a 5-4 win.

The only difference was doubles play, as the Cardinals won the first two flights to take two of the three available points.

Aly Landis and Shelbi Keller pulled out a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles, Gaby Reyes had a straight set win at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-2), Jayna Morehouse won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, and Landis prevailed 6-1, 6-7, 10-8 at the No. 6 singles flight to account for MVNU’s four wins.

MVNU (5-12) has two more matches left in its season, and its next one will come April 14 at Marietta College in Marietta. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
