MOUNT VERNON — The city police and fire departments will be adding new faces in the next couple of months. The fire department will be adding four people and the police department three.

The fire department will be adding three firefighter/paramedics, which were pledged in the campaign for the income tax increase last year, plus one to replace Capt. Mike Triesch.

Chief Chad Christopher said he is starting the interview stage of hiring the first three and he hopes to have them on the job by the end of April or the first of May. He doesn’t expect to hire the fourth until the captain’s vacancy is filled, which should be by the end of June.

The test for the captain’s position will be administered May 16, giving the applicants 60 days to study after it was posted.
