ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — In his 17th appearance in the NCAA tournament, you’d think coach Mike Durbin would be used to it.

On the contrary. The Howard native and head women’s basketball coach of the College of St. Benedict wanted to take it all in.

“It was emotional for me,” Durbin told the News. “We didn’t really expect it at the beginning of the year.”

This season marked the first time in nine years his Blazers were invited to the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament. CSB lost in the first round to George Fox University, 79-63, on March 2.

It was the end of one of the best seasons in recent years for the team, which finished 22-5 overall, including 16-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
