MOUNT VERNON — Norman R. “Sonny” Reed, 73, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon, with his niece, Christy, who had been like a daughter, by his side.

He was born Sept. 8, 1944, in Borger, Texas, living most of his life in Walnut, Mississippi.

Norman was a United States Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by parents, Burton and Earline (Gunn) Reed, his wife, Carol (Johnson) Reed, who passed away in 2014 and a sister, Nona Schmelzle.

In addition to his special niece, Christy Williamson, and her son, Jesse, he is survived by sisters, Nan Holt of Mount Vernon and Nina Whisman of Wyoming, his nephew, John Johnson of Corinth, Mississippi, and a good friend, Amy L. Stander. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews; including many great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Hospice of Knox County and The Laurels for the care given to Norman through the final stages of his illness.

The family will observe private services.

The Lasater Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the Reed Family.
