MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Regional Planning Commission elected officers Thursday evening, returning most of the current officers to office.

Vic Turner of Brown Township was re-elected chairman, Jason Rogers of Hilliar Township returns as treasurer, and Nancy Vail of Mount Vernon will continue as land use chair. Roger Yarman of College Township will be the new vice chairman.

Joe Duncan of Danville was the vice chairman, but he is no longer Danville’s representative at the Regional Planning Commission.

Secretary Darrel Severns reported he is finishing the editing of the revised comprehensive plan and it should be ready in April for a vote to send it on to the county commissioners.

The commission, at the suggestion of Pleasant Township representative Jim Hughes, discussed only meeting every other month due to the lack of time-sensitive issues, such as rezoning applications. The commission finally decided to keep the monthly meeting schedule, but meetings will be skipped if there is no business to discuss.

Severns also reported that city representative John Owens has resigned from the commission due to health issues. Mayor Richard Mavis will be nominating a replacement.
