MOUNT VERNON — Developmental Disability Awareness month was celebrated in brilliant fashion, as the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities hosted a luncheon on Wednesday. Held at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Ariel Arena, the board honored individuals, staff and community partners with multiple awards.
“We are celebrating those with disabilities in Knox County,” Steve Oster, KCBDD Superintendent told the News about the luncheon. “We want to highlight all that they can do, all of their employment opportunities, the employers who hire them and the importance of healthy living and eating — everyone wants to be healthy.”
The luncheon also featured a presentation about the board’s “adaptive playground” project. According to the KCBDD, the project was started because many families felt they had no where to take their children with physical disabilities to play.
