MOUNT VERNON — Northmor’s Tyler Kegley wasn’t worried. He’s been in tough situations before and came through.
With just five seconds left and his team down by one, Kegley calmly stepped to the line and drained two free throws to give the All-Stars a 103-102 victory over the Senior Stars in the Mount Vernon News All-Star Senior Showcase Tuesday at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Ariel Arena.
“I’ve had two other game-winners in my career, but this one’s up there,” Kegley said. “This was a lot of fun.”
Kegley’s free throws capped a wild night which saw big runs from both teams, long three-point bombs and even a few dunks. The 38th edition of the all-star game matched up senior all-stars from Cardington, Danville, East Knox, Fredericktown, Highland, Northridge, Mount Vernon, Mount Gilead and Northmor.
MOUNT VERNON — A collegiate venue was a fitting place to put on a display the best of what area high schools have to offer.
The 2018 Mount Vernon News All-Star Senior Showcase, played Tuesday at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Ariel Arena, gave a few players one, last chance to put on their high school uniform and shine. The All-Stars, riding a 21-3 first half run, went on to a 59-47 victory over the Senior Stars.
Centerburg High School’s Cierra Joiner, playing for the All-Stars, scored 25 points, pulled down a dozen rebounds and added four assists, earning her the Player of the Game award.
“This game is all about having fun, showing the community what we can do and showcase our abilities,” Joiner said. “It was a little competitive and both teams played well, but most of all, it was a fun experience. I was really happy to be chosen for this. It was a little bit of hard work, paying off.”
