MOUNT VERNON — Culinary mastery is being achieved right here in Knox County with the Knox County Career Center FCCLA culinary students.

The students competed at their regional competition March 3 at the Columbus Culinary Institute. Eleven students participated, winning eight gold and three silver medals. The junior team was awarded first place, winning gold with 99 out of 100 points; while the senior team won with 93 out of 100 points.

All of the winners include:

•Culinary Team: Juniors — Gold and Regional Champions and a $12,000 scholarship to Sullivan University: Mya Gonsalves, Anna Hobson and David Parsons. Seniors — Gold: Jennifer Cummings, Brandon Walchle and Samantha Avery.

• Creative Cake: Gold — Junior Riley Hergatt and Senior Shyanne Hager.

• Pastry Tray: Silver — Junior Keila Simmons.

• Product Development: Silver — Juniors Samantha Jennings and Autumn Snyder.
