COLUMBUS — The overflow crowd and the raucous student section wearing orange and black couldn’t help the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets dig themselves out of such a big hole.

The Jackets fell behind by 20 in the second quarter to Reynoldsburg in their first Division I district championship game in 25 years. They narrowed the gap considerably, but didn’t have the strength to complete the comeback in Saturday’s 51-36 loss.

“We really struggled in the first quarter to get some good looks,” Mount Vernon coach Nick Coon said. “That’s a credit to (Reynoldsburg). They use their length and their athleticism and their size to get the good matchups.”
