MARTINSBURG — W. Merle “Bud” Wheeler, 86, of Martinsburg, passed away March 8, 2018, at his residence. He was born April 30, 1931, in Belmont County to Clinton Ray and Arminda (Perkins) Wheeler.

Bud was a member of the Perry Chapel Baptist Church, former Clay township trustee. He was a charter member of the Bladensburg Fire Department where he served as chief for five years. A United States Army veteran where he served in the Korean War in the Tank Company 4th infantry. Bud also coached Little League, Babe Ruth and umpired all levels, including college baseball games.

He is survived by his children, Beverly (Ron) Foote of Martinsburg, Brenda (Steve) Dush of Newark, Gary (Crickett) Wheeler of Buckeye Lake, Larry (Tina) Wheeler of Martinsburg and Randy (Diane) Wheeler of Utica; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Wheeler; sister, Evelyn Ramsey; brother, Thomas Wheeler; and granddaughter, Julia Van-Poele.

Friends may call on Monday, March 12, from 5-7 p.m. at Bladensburg Church of Christ, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Bladensburg with military graveside honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
