MOUNT VERNON — The six lots on South Main Street between Parrott Street and Adamson Street will remain zoned residential, at least for the time being, after the owners withdrew their request to rezone it to Neighborhood Commercial.
Local businessman Mark Ramser, who owns the north half of the property, and Joe Updike of New Gambier Road, who owns the south half, withdrew their application after it became clear that members of the commission had problems with the proposal and would not be likely to vote to recommend the change to City Council.
Ramser plans to sell a portion of the north lots to the city for its use in the upcoming improvement of the Parrott-South Main intersection and sell the rest to Updike. Updike wants to build a large garage on the property for storage and working on classic cars he and his wife own. It was thought a Neighborhood Commercial designation would allow the construction of the 60-foot by-120-foot pole barn.
