HILLIARD — For one, it’s a chance at a bit of redemption. For the other, it’s a chance to make his own mark.

Mount Vernon’s Ashton Spurgeon and Max Van Fossen both qualified for the Division I State wrestling tournament after placing in the top four at the district meet Saturday at Hilliard Darby.

“It feels good. It’s awesome (having two qualify for state),” said Mount Vernon coach John Frye.

Spurgeon (195 pounds), who finished second at districts, is back in the state tournament for the second year. Last year as a fourth seed, he won one of three matches, falling just short of making the podium.
