CENTERBURG — Eleanor Jane (Snyder, Payne) Basell, 102, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2018. She was born on March 1, 1916, to Jay B. and Hazel (Walters) Snyder from Centerburg.

Eleanor graduated from Centerburg High School in 1934. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1938. She taught in Columbus and Hebron for many years. She also had many roles in ministry starting with a church on Williams Road in Columbus, including evangelism with Andrew Basell, playing the violin and other instruments on the platform, up until her time at Covenant Church. She also helped found The Gospel Supply Shop now changed to Gospel Christian Life Shop that is still running in Mount Vernon.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Boesel; her first husband, Gerald Payne of Centerburg; her second husband, Andrew Basell; son, Terron Everson Payne; and a daughter, Susan DeBoard.

Eleanor is survived by her grandchildren, Beck (Steve) Perry of England, Mike (Stacey) DeBoard of San Juan Capistrano, California, Matt (Rachel) DeBoard of Valrico, Florida, TJ Payne of Columbus, Dacy (Robert) Bagley; great-grandchildren, Laura Stephens of Reynoldsburg, Ian Stephens of Grove City, Amber Stephens of Akron, Matt Capithorne of Valrico, Florida, Nick Capithorne of Valrico, Florida, Alyssa DeBoard of Valrico, Florida, Kristen Bagley of Raleigh, North Carolina, Rob Bagley of Columbus, Danielle Bagley of Columbus and Angel Bagley of Columbus; great-great-grandchildren, Darrius Bagley and Derionna Bagley; nephews, Steve Boesel of Cincinnati and Brad (Sylvia) Boesel of Phoenix, Arizona; great niece, Heather (David) Mingo; great nephew, Chris (Kelly) Boesel; special friends, Elaine Kuperberg of New York, New York, Steve Kuperberg of New York, New York and Ivan and Rebecca Miller and all the church family at Covenant Church.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of a memorial service celebrating the life of Eleanor at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Covenant Church, 13360 New Delaware Road, Mount Vernon with Pastor Tim Overly officiating. A private burial will take place in Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg.
