MOUNT VERNON — It’s been a busy month already for the Parks, Buildings and Public Lands Department as it gets ready for spring.

The Foundation Park Conservancy Board has granted approval to begin installing the lights on the arches of the Viaduct bridge. The project should be completed within the next 90 days, Superintendent Dave Carpenter said.

A pollinator flower garden will be planted in the field south of the west lake at Ariel-Foundation Park. Carpenter said that once the ground is prepped and seeds planted, flowers should bloom periodically through the summer and fall.

This is a combined effort of the Shade Tree Commission and Foundation Park Conservancy board. Fifty native trees are also planned for this area.
