MOUNT VERNON — A Danville man was convicted of domestic violence in Mount Vernon Municipal Court on Thursday.

The charge against Allen Wears arose out of an incident that occurred on August 5, 2017 when Mr. Wears became intoxicated and threatened harm to his wife.

Ronny Flynn of the Village of Fredericktown Police Department testified to the details of the fourth-degree felony charge. The jury deliberated for approximately an hour before returning the guilty verdict.

Judge John C. Thatcher sentenced Wears to pay a $250 fine plus court costs, serve 30 days in jail with 20 days suspended, placed him on 2 years of probation, with special conditions of supervision that he complete a drug and alcohol assessment within 60 days, complete the Mount Vernon Municipal Court Hands Down Program for domestic violence offenders, pay $100 per month on his fines and costs, and that he have no contact with the victim in this matter.

Assistant Director of Law Brittany Whitney tried the case and Brandon Crunkilton of the Knox County Public Defender’s Office represented Wears.
