In his telephone press conference Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown lashed out at a proposed U.S. Department of Labor rule that could cause workers who depend on tips to lose “billions” of dollars.

Brown said the Department of Labor proposed a rule in December that would allow employers to collect the tips earned by waiters and other workers who earn less than the minimum wage.

The rule would rescind the Obama Administration rule that banned employers from taking workers’ tips.
