FREDERICKTOWN — Ellen Divelbiss, 73, of Fredericktown, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at the family home. Born Margaret Ellen Davidson, she was born on Dec. 28, 1944, the only child of the late Jessie Mabel (Mellor) and Donald Peters Davidson of Kipton, Ohio. She attended and graduated from Firelands High School in Oberlin, received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Ashland University in Ashland, and graduated with her Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

Upon completing her degrees, she went on to teach 1st and 2nd grade classes at Fredericktown Elementary in Fredericktown for a total of 11 years. After her retirement, she then went on to teach at many Adult Education classes for several years as well.

Along the way, Ellen met and married the love of her life, Terry Divelbiss, after a whirlwind romance on Dec. 30, 1972, at the Kipton Community Church in Kipton, with the ceremony officiated by the Reverend Leah Matthews. The couple was the guests of honor at a 45th anniversary reception on Dec. 30, 2017 at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, where she was active in many facets, including assisting in the opening of the Fredericktown Christian Preschool, Sunday School classes, and the “Prayers and Squares” quilting group. She further served her community at various times as a 4-H advisor, a Cub Scout Den Mother, Odyssey of the Mind coach, and at least one other quilting club.

A third-generation quilter, Ellen deployed her talents with a needle and thread in several ways, displaying and donating several award winning quilts to multiple art shows, Tomato Show displays, and various charities and clubs. She also donated many quilts to be given to babies as a comfort. As her family can attest, she loved to quilt, completing several hundred pieces over the course of her lifetime.

Surviving are her husband, Terry, as well as their three children, Donald (Heather) Divelbiss of Fredericktown, David Divelbiss of Mount Vernon, and Daniel (Megan) Divelbiss of Cincinnati. She is also survived by two grandchildren, John Divelbiss and Ena Divelbiss.
