MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon woman was cited in a Tuesday crash involving a Knox Area Transit bus.

Laura S. Rearick, 20, was cited for drive onto road/duty to yield in the two-vehicle crash, which occurred Tuesday at approximately 8:47 a.m. on Vernonview Drive in Mount Vernon.

According to Mount Vernon Police reports, Rearick was crossing Vernonview from a business parking lot and pulled into the path of a KAT van driven by Jeffrey S. Arnette, 52, Mount Vernon. The van struck Rearick’s vehicle.

Rearick reported non-incapacitating injuries and was taken by the Mount Vernon Fire/EMS squad to Knox Community Hospital. A spokesperson with KCH said that Rearick was treated and released.

Arnette was not injured, according to reports.

Knox County Job and Family Services Director Matthew Kurtz said there were no passengers on the bus at the time. Kurtz said JFS has an on-staff mechanic who evaluates vehicles that have been in an accident.
