Mount Vernon’s Kaden Daniels goes up for a shot during Friday’s Ohio Cardinal Conference game against Mansfield Senior. The Yellow Jackets won, 50-48.

MANSFIELD — Mount Vernon used another good second half for an Ohio Cardinal Conference win on Friday, edging Mansfield Senior on the road, 50-48.

“We took their initial hit and continued to play the game,” Yellow Jacket head coach Nick Coon said. “As we settled in, we were able to handle their defensive pressure and played much more efficiently offensively. We handled the ball and were able to get good shots. Our players had tremendous poise throughout the game.”

In addition to handling the Tygers’ defensive pressure, Mount Vernon (11-5, 5-2) were able to exert some of its will on the Mansfield Senior offense.

“Our defense stepped up big in the second half,” Coon said. “To limit a quality team like Mansfield Senior to 16 points in the second half on their home floor is a great team defensive effort.”
