MOUNT VERNON — It was an opportunity for the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets to help honor one of their former players and show how talented their current varsity crop is. The Jackets’ wasted no time, making short work of the undermanned Harvest Prep Warriors, 58-25 in their teams’ non-conference matchup at Ariel Arena at Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday.

Mount Vernon’s Layne Lepley led the way for the Jackets with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She liked the larger stage at MVNU.

“I really like the way we pushed the ball,” Lepley said. “We really played well as a team.”

The game was played, using the college distance of 20.75 feet for the 3-point line (the high school distance is 19.75 feet). The Jackets, however, still knocked down four from the outside, including three of them by Maggie Nussbaum (13 points).
