DANVILLE — Blue Devils sophomore CeCe Newbold left the locker room after Wednesday’s game and was asked how she spells her first name.

“I capitalize the second ‘C’,” she explained, “but it’s not supposed to.”

Her head coach, Matt Proper, chimed in, “That’s why I call you Ce-SEE.”

Everyone in Danville’s high school gym Wednesday could see how well Newbold has developed as a basketball player. Newbold scored 28 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and collected six steals as the Devils defeated Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference foe Fredericktown, 69-31.

The Freddies had no answer for Newbold, who used her natural strength to score 12 total points on putbacks, including six from the free-throw line. On defense, Newbold had a knack for finding the ball and taking it away.
