MOUNT VERNON — Cleve D. Morton, 79, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1938, in Knox County to the late Charles and Ethel (Chaney) Morton. Cleve was employed and retired from Chattanooga Glass Company with over 25 years of service. He enjoyed building cars and working with his hands. But most of all, Cleve loved the time he spent with his family. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Morton; his son, Robert (Anna) Morton; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his brothers, William, Clarence, Harvey and Paul Morton; and his sisters, Rosie Miller and Carol Fradd.

In addition to his parents, Cleve was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Morton; his granddaughter, Amanda Jo Morton; and three brothers, Earl, Harry and Sonny Morton.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
