FREDERICKTOWN — Wilma Brake, 78, of Fredericktown, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, after an extended illness. She was born on July 4, 1939, in Waterford, the daughter of Thomas and Blanche (Cox) Purdy and had spent her lifetime in the Fredericktown area. She was the previous co-owner of Brakes Dairy Corner in Fredericktown.

Wilma was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a special bond with each and every one in her family. She was lovingly referred to as “old grandma” and will be sadly missed.

Surviving are her children, Linda Brake, Joyce Brake, Lori (Mike) Steel, Kathie (Mark) Yarman and Steven (Darla) Brake; seven grandchildren, Jon (Danielle) Vail, Brian (Lindsay) Vail, Travis (Nicki) Yarman, Hunter Brake, Fisher Brake, Tanner Brake and Brodhi Steel; great-grandchildren, Lilly and Olivia Vail, Ava and Alex Vail, Ryver and Truth Yarman; her brothers, Marvin Purdy and James Purdy; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Brake Jr.; brother, Phillip Purdy; sister, Alma Cline; and a grandson, Adam Yarman.

In following with Wilma’s wishes the family will observe a private graveside service in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown. The Snyder Funeral Home of Fredericktown is honored to serve the family of Wilma Brake.

Memorial contributions in Wilma’s name may be made to the Knox County Foundation Hospice Fund.
