MOUNT VERNON — Tuesday’s nonconference matchup against the visiting Worthington Christian Warriors was a tall order for the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets, in more ways than one. The Jackets, however, were equal to the task, defeating the taller Warriors, 56-43.

The Jackets’ tenacious defense pulled down 30 rebounds with post player Peyton McCord leading the way. McCord had 12 rebounds, while teammate Audri Fiorilli had six. They and the rest of the Jackets’ defense helped to keep the Warriors, led by 6-foot-1 junior post Emma Linehan and freshman shooting sensation Katherine Weakley, in check — especially in the first half. The Warriors had 20 rebounds with Linehan and Jenna Lake getting five, each.
