MOUNT VERNON — Richard “Dick” Alley, 74, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at The Ohio Eastern Star Home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on Oct. 25, 1943, in Richlands, Virginia, to the late Sandy B. and Callie M. (Osborne) Alley.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and many hobbies including bowling, playing card games with family and friends, and visiting casinos. Dick was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion in Fredericktown.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Yung Ja “Peggy” (Lee) Alley, whom he met while stationed in Hawaii. He is also survived by five children, John (Lisa) McSorley, David (Lori) Alley, Linda (Henry) Lozano, Virginia (Phil) Cutrel, and Susan (Mic) Garcia; a sister, Sandra (Bob) Lee; a brother, Bill (Kim) Alley; and eight grandchildren, Matthew, Cody, Katelyn, Justine, Brandon, Joshua, Makenzie and Benjamin. Dick was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Scott Alley.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Jan. 10, from noon to 2 p.m. at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military graveside honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of Knox County or The American Cancer Society in remembrance of his mother Callie Alley.
