WOOSTER — On the road for Ohio Cardinal Conference play at Wooster on Friday, the Mount Vernon boys’ basketball team overcame a single-digit first quarter to lead the Generals after three quarters of play. Wooster, however, fought back with a big fourth quarter to edge the Yellow Jackets, 52-49.

“We gave a tremendous effort tonight against a talented Wooster team, but in the end came up a few plays short,” head coach Nick Coon said. “We hung in throughout the game and gave ourselves a chance to win a tough game on the road.”

The three-point shot was Mount Vernon’s weapon of choice in the game, as they hit more than half of their field goals (9 of 17) from behind the arc. The Jackets also had a good night at the line, missing just one of seven shots. The Generals sank 22 total shots, with four from long distance, and made just 4 of 8 at the line.
