CENTERBURG — Wayne Everett Rutherford, 82, of Centerburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and family, Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017.

He was born March 18, 1935, in Delaware to the late Goldie (Wright) and Eldridge Rutherford.

Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force who served in Alaska. Upon leaving the service, Wayne worked for the Coca Cola Co., Pepsico, Rockwell, North American and finished his working years with PPG Industries in Delaware. Wayne was a lifetime member of Centerburg Amvets and The Centerburg Conservation Club, as well as Centerburg Church of Christ.

Wayne dearly loved and cherished his family. His greatest enjoyment was watching his kids and grandkids play sports, sing in the choir, play in the band or whatever activities in which they were involved. If you were having a conversation with Wayne, you were hearing about all the achievements of his loved ones and often got a nick-name that would instantly become your calling-card.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Bonita (Benjamin) Rutherford; son, Douglas “Ole Fart” (Elaine) Rutherford; daughters, Pam “Pammy” (Gary “Honk”) Pruett, Denise “Dede” (Bill) Vernon, Marilyn “Maynard Mange” Rutherford and Teri “Teri-Pooh” (Bill) Miller; son, Gary “Gar” (Becky) Fraley; and daughter-in-law, Dinah Fraley; grandchildren, Jacob (Katie) Rutherford, Julie (Nathan) Bishop, Robin (Clinton) Rupprecht, Stacey (Nathan) Bellman, Amy (JR) Holyfield, Summer Haynes, Thomas (Sam) Rutherford, Ryan (Amanda) Vernon, Jocelyn Vernon, Ellie, Sam and Abbie Miller, Emily and Lydia Fraley and Aidan Fraley; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia McBride, Marcella Helgeson and Peggy Fitzpatrick; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Rutherford; as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends and neighbors.

The family would like to send a special appreciation to dear friends, Dave and Gloria Evans and Mick and Michelle Alexander, who sat and visited with Wayne during these past couple of months.

Besides his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann (Murphy) Rutherford; step-son, Brian Fraley; brothers, Frederick, John and Russell; sisters, Claribelle McKirgan and Doris Cannon; and great-grandson, Brody Holyfield.

His family will sorely miss the pure sense of humor and orneriness that Wayne possessed. We all knew that if we needed a good laugh, just go sit with him for a little while.

Funeral Services will be held 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Centerburg Church of Christ, 3830 Columbus Road, Centerburg. Family and friends may call 4 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Delaware at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed towards Centerburg Church of Christ 3830 Columbus Road, Centerburg, OH 43310 or Southern Care Hospice 4039 Parkmead Drive, Grove City, OH 43123.
