ORRVILLE — The first sign that things weren’t going right for the Danville Blue Devils came before the opening kickoff.
As the team prepared to make its grand entrance on the field, the banner held by the cheerleaders was ripped in half by the wind.
So, the players ran onto the field with just the cheers from the stands. There wouldn’t be much more cheering Friday.
The Blue Devils lost control of their Division VII state semifinal late in the first half and watched their hopes for a spot in the state finals sputter away as Cuyahoga Heights soundly defeated them, 38-8, at Orrville High School.
