Mount Vernon — Janet M. Baker, 87, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 30, 1930, in Mansfield, the daughter of Lewis and Marie (Chapman) Zerby.

Janet volunteered for many years as a teacher’s aide in the Fredericktown school system and was an active member of the Eastside Church of Christ. She took pleasure in calligraphy and painting and was an avid reader always enjoying a good novel written by her favorite authors: David Baldacci, Lillian Brown, Nicholas Sparks and Rhys Bowen.

Janet and her late husband, Ralph Baker, enjoyed traveling and spent over 10 years touring the United States.

She is survived by her children, Jerry (Joyce) Baker of Bellville, Jeff (Jill) Baker of Kershaw, South Carolina, and Laura (Mark) Cremeans of Tipp City; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Baker; a brother, Larry Zerby; and a sister, Betty Baum.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the Eastside Church of Christ, 1120 Yauger Road, Mount Vernon. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Janet M. Baker.
