“It’s not enough to just get there anymore. If we set that bar to the top half, it tells them we expect to be there every year.” Bob Geiger, Fredericktown Cross-Country Coach

FREDERICKTOWN — As crowded as the OHSAA State Cross-Country Championships can be, Fredericktown is usually easy to spot.

Just look for the big circle.

The Freddies have made it their tradition to gather in a big circle before every big race. Not just the runners — coaches, parents, friends and grandparents as well.

It’s their way of showing unity with the team and the community.

“A few minutes before the race, I call out, ‘Circle up, Freddies,’” head cross-country coach Bob Geiger said. “They all gather. It’s really neat to see.”

That circle will gather twice on Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron. The Fredericktown girls will participate in the Division III race at 11 a.m., while the boys will run at 1:30 p.m.
