HOWARD — Ruth Van Dyke, age 81, of Howard, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1936, in Martin County, Kentucky, to the late Simon and Nora (Maynard) Horn. Ruth was employed as a supervisor in the computer center at the Huntington National Bank in Columbus. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple and former member of the Capital City Baptist in Columbus. Ruth was formerly a member of the Veterans Advocacy Committee and volunteered for Hospice of Knox County.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ellen (John) Madden; her sons, Lynn (Connie) Van Dyke and Donald (Karin) Van Dyke; five grandchildren, James, JP, Nora, Angela and Bradley; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Van Dyke, and 16 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, from 4-6 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple (21453 Floralwood Dr., Howard, Ohio 43028). A service will follow, beginning at 6 p.m., with Rev. Curt Smith officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Columbus beginning at 11 a.m.
