DELAWARE — With Utica leading two sets to one in Saturday’s Division III district final, and the fourth set tied at 15, Johnstown’s Gabby Thomas scored on a hard-hit kill.

Thomas turned to her teammates and made a gesture that suggested, “keep feeding me.”

She went on to score four more kills in the set, finishing with 22 total kills as the Johnnies upset the top-seeded Redskins, 19-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 15-9, at Buckeye Valley High School.

“We didn’t really go after it. For some reason, it seemed like we were holding back,” said Utica head coach Laurie Londot. “I don’t know. We talk about playing to win and not playing not to lose. But, we couldn’t get in sync.”
