PICKERINGTON — The elements played havoc with area cross-country runners in the OHSAA regionals at Pickerington North High School.

A chilling, wintery mix of rain, sleet and snow greeted the girls in the morning, leaving areas of the course that were a treacherous slog for the boys in the afternoon. The Fredericktown Freddies persevered and will be sending their girls and boys teams to the state finals. Going with them will be the Centerburg girls team.

The Fredericktown girls (120 points) placed runner-up as a team to rival Mount Gilead (40 points) in Division III.

Fredericktown junior Nichole Groseclose (20:17.46) led her team with a 14th place finish in the uncomfortable conditions.
