MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon city administration has begun contract talks with all three employee unions, Safety-Service Director Joel Daniels reported. However, he added, they have begun discussing only non-economic issues.

“We can’t even begin to discuss economic issues until we know the outcome of the city income tax increase,” Daniels said.

He hopes talks will be concluded by the end of the year, when the current contracts expire.

The Coshocton Avenue widening project is proceeding, City Engineer Brian Ball reported. The additional box culvert and wing walls are in place and construction is expected to start by Tuesday or Wednesday on the foundation for the retaining wall. Dec. 15 is still the target date for completion.
