MOUNT VERNON — In observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, New Hope Industries on Thursday held its annual breakfast to recognize and honor Knox County businesses and agencies that employ persons with disabilities. NHI also celebrated local businesses which provide contract work to its workshop, enabling 80-100 persons with disabilities to perform paid work while there.

Each of the employers is important to the lives of persons with disabilities, and, said employment navigator Bobbi Kirch, they have helped the individuals gain self-confidence, earn a pay check and make new friends.

“You have chosen to focus on abilities and not challenges,” she continued. “Thank you.”
