FREDERICKTOWN — Katharine L. Brown, 86, of Fredericktown, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, following bouts with a variety of recent medical issues.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1930, in Mount Vernon, to the late Edgar and Ruth (Hyatt) Cochran and spent her early years in the Green Valley Community.

As a 1946 Mount Vernon High graduate, Kate married William Brown and began a 67 year long adventure raising six children and mothering countless others who came to the old farm house she called home. A 25 year teaching career, faithful work at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, and activities with farm and community groups filled those eventful years.

Nothing was more important to Kate than family, friends and her spiritual life. Family gatherings, a half full cup of coffee, her maple candies and giving thoughtful advice will always be her legacies. Predeceased in 2015 by Bill, she is survived by a sister, Peggy Murphy; daughters, Susan (John) Stone and Sandra (Larry) Brueshaber; sons, Tim (Ellen) Brown, Kelly (Marcia) Brown, Dan (Kathie) Brown, and Matt (Dawn) Brown. Fifteen grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren complete the family tree to this date.

A memorial service will take place Monday, Oct. 30, at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church. The family will receive guests from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service officiated by Pastor Richard Hasley beginning at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Knox County Hospice, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050; or Fredericktown Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation of Knox County, P.O. Box 309, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
